The Trust elected to begin the awarding of scholarships to learners in Grade 9.  The scholarships provide the necessary funding for school fees, boarding fees, (if necessary), uniforms, books and stationery, transport and extra-mural studies for four years, to the completion of Grade 12 on condition that the learner maintains a good academic standard by the Trust's Education Sub- Committee.  Successful ZK Matthews Scholars should be academically promising and diligent students.

In 2010, ten learners, entering Grade 9 at six of the pilot schools received full scholarships to the value of R109,000 for the 2011 academic year.  It is evident by the examples of their testimonies that the support provided by the Trust is not just necessary but deeply appreciated by the Scholars and their families.
